3 edible native plants perfect for your garden!

Australia is a country blessed with a wide range of native greenery, a lot of which is not only edible, but also delicious. Here are 3 that the team at Wagga Nursery would fit right into any garden with ease. 


River Mint (Mentha australis

Found across south eastern Australia in moist forests and around waterways


- Drought tolerant once established


- Can be grown in sun or shade, but needs regular watering to be at its best


- Fresh leaves are delicious in tea, salads and fruit salads








Appleberry (Billardiera scandens)

Occurs in forests in the coastal and tableland areas of all states and territories in Australia


- Hardy plant, drought tolerant once established


- Grows in full sun to part shade


- The fruit appear through Summer and ripen from purple to yellow


- The fruit is said to taste like spiced apple













Ruby saltbush (Enchylaena tomentosa)

Common native plant, occurring through most of southern and central Australia



- Hardy and drought tolerant once established


- The fruit is succulent and change from green to yellow prior to ripening


- Berries can be red or orange when ripe


- Use the salty-sweet fruit in salads or fruit salads or as a garden snack
